Lt. Gov. Bolling confirmed as Memorial Day speaker in Amelia

It was confirmed Monday (April 16) Lt. Gov. Bill Bolling is one of the guest speakers at the Memorial Day event in Amelia on May 28. The event sponsored by American Legion Post 87, based in Amelia, will be held at the Virginia Veterans Cemetery at Amelia beginning at 10 a.m. District 4 Congressman J. Randy Forbes had already accepted the invitation to speak at the event that also features Mike McAllister, the state's assistant secretary of the Department of Homeland Defense and Veteran's Affairs, a band ensemble of the 29th Division, Virginia Army National Guard, and a contingent ofthe St. Andrew's Legion Pipe and Drum Corp. Lt. Gov. Bolling has represented the people of Virginia since 1991 when he was first elected to the state senate. During his 10-year tenure, he was recognized for his work on health care and natural resource issues, according to the biography submitted by his office. He was chairman of the Hanover County Board of Supervisors prior to his election to the senate. Lt. Gov. Bolling was re-elected to a second term as lieutenant governor in 2009 when he ran with fellow Republican, current Gov. Bob McDonnell. In his second term, Lt. Gov. Bolling is focused on getting the state's economy moving again and has been charged by Gov. McDonnell with creating jobs by asking him to serve as chief jobs creation officer and making him a cabinet member. Lt. Gov. Bolling is responsible for coordinating the state's economic development programs across numerous state agencies and working with business leaders to identify ways to improve the state's economy. He also assists economic development officials in recruiting new business and industry to Virginia and helps economic development initiatives get through the General Assembly. Lt. Gov. Boiling and his wife of 32 years, Jean Ann, have two sons, Matt and Kevin, who live in Hanover County.
