Monday, June 18, 2007
RICHMOND - Lieutenant Governor Bill Bolling today released the following statement in response to the CGI Group Inc. announcement that they are ahead of schedule in hiring new employees for the Southwest Virginia Center of Excellence in Lebanon and will increase their total number of employees from 300 to 375.
"Earlier today, CGI announced they have hired 185 employees for their Southwest Virginia Center for Excellence since its opening in March of 2006. This is 45 hires ahead of their original schedule. Additionally, CGI has decided to add an additional 75 to the total number of new jobs at the facility bringing the total number to 375."
"I congratulate CGI on their success and commend them for their commitment to Southwest Virginia. I had the privilege of touring their facility in November of 2006 and I was impressed with their progress, the quality of their employees and operation, and their dedication to improving the quality of life in Southwest Virginia. Additionally, local government and economic development officials stressed the importance of CGI in serving as a catalyst to revitalizing and diversifying the economy of Russell County and Southwest Virginia."
"Having grown up in Southwest Virginia, I understand the economic challenges we face in this region of our state. CGI is successfully bringing high-quality, well-paid jobs to Southwest Virginia, which allows more people that were born and raised in the region to have an opportunity to find a good job. The partnership between CGI and the Commonwealth of Virginia is indicative of how government can work with business and industry to enhance economic development and provide opportunities to workers and their families."
